garnered, with Monty’s help,  the power of Twitter to raise £20,000 for CLIC Sargent children’s cancer care from a cycle ride the length of Britain, John O’Groats to Lands End among other endeavours!.

£11,748 raised by 28th Oct, £8,252 still to get!! Can YOU help us?

The TwycleBritain ride ended 4th Sep 2010, info below kept here for reference while other fundraising continues

There is now a forum for our cyclists to chat! click here

July Activity!
Everyone has been really training hard as the 27th Aug draws close and into reality! Lucy Merigold and Andy have been out with the New Inn in Gloucester raising cash with the TwycleBritain Buckets, Jason Duff has been rasing money at his local Tesco Ramsey store in Cambridgeshire on his bike and in his new shorts (!) - with CLIC’s help he was able to raise £104 for the fund.

A few of our riders did around 50 miles at the end of July as ‘practice’...it sounds as if some managed better than others (!) and 3-4 of the team are doing the London-Brighton run on 31st July too!

Leigh and Helen are arranging spare inner tubes, a tool kit and pump to go into one of the support vehicles but is anyone else planning on emergency kit to bring with them?

The sponsored cycling tops are due on 6th August to Leigh Griffiths

Jason Duff is (brilliantly!) taking the reigns on some of the latest organisational bits and will be co-ordinating a lot of the last minute rider arrangements/event movements etc

The proofs have now arrived for the Twycle logo’s on the two Lexus...and they look excellent!

Click here to see our 3 Lexus and Transit support vehicles!

We have 9 riders setting off from Chesterfield, Derbyshire lunchtime Fri 27th August in our 3 vehicles - spending overnight on the Scottish borders in hostel/B&B type accommodation, then Saturday night in John O’Groats at the Scottish Youth Hostel - then leaving there 6am Sunday 29th August 2010, there will be a stop each night 10pm - 6am....and we will be at Lands End Sat 4th Sept.

We will ride a 16hr day, 2 riding at a time, in pairs for safety. Each pair ride for two hours, so each pair will do 2 x 2hr shifts per day. The 9th rider will cover shifts for anyone who needs a break, illness/injury etc.

On the route we are planning, at an average 10-12mph throughout, we estimate covering c 150 miles a day

As we have a young rider with us we need to build in proper rest stops overnight.

In addition to the two Lexus RX vehicles supplied by Lexus UK, and GK Motor Group in Derbyshire have loaned a van for the entire trip to carry bikes/equipment and assisting in smooth changeover during shifts of riders etc

While teams of 2 are on rest periods in the support vehicles, they will not be short of anything to do! Route monitoring, liaising with local press, going on ahead to overnight accomm’ after their final 2hr stint, tweeting updates and photo’s.

We aim to plan to allow all 9 riders to cycle the last 30miles together..in victory! Route is: see the latest here .

A huge thank you to Lexus who are kindly supplying TWO RX hybrids for this challenge as support vehicles

Lexus

Lexus is happy to support a good cause and hopes the relaxing ride in the RX proves to be of comfort to the TwycleBritain riders!

You need to look at insuring yourself against all necessary risks for this trip, it is each rider’s responsibility.

TIMING for SET OFF
We require riders to be able to get themselves and their bike and personal effects to GK Ford dealership, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield by 11.30am on Friday 27th August. The three vehicles will be ready to go from there. All kit and bikes will travel in the van. We will have some publicity arranged that lunchtime and you will all set off together early afternoon. We need to know if anyone needs to leave vehicles there for the week as advance booking of space is needed please..it is a very busy time for the dealership with 1st Sept new plate cars arriving into stock and they have very little spare parking room

FOOD
As of end of July we have some sponsorship money from a major sponsor for lunch provisions, this may not cover everything so please ensure you have your own cash/cards with you. We suggest a packed lunch for Fri 27th Aug! If the sponsorship situation changes (or any of you can help arrange help in this area), we'll let you all know

ACCOMMODATION
We ahave been able to cover the 9 main team riders with sponsorship for all nights now. All accom will be kept to minimum costs in YHA type facilities where possible. Accommodation is being booked for the 9 main riders. If you are planning on cycling just a leg or a little more with us please note accommodation will not have been arranged for you unless you have already specified the leg(s) you wish to cycle to enable us to add a bed booking in for you on the relevant night!

Fri 27th Aug has been booked - we believe this is the Premier Inn at Hamilton Services M74 sponsored by Downey Engineering and http://www.galleriesintheblackmountains.co.uk/

TRAVEL HOME
Clearly, if riders have family/friends meeting them at Lands End for the victorious final day (the more the merrier) they may prefer to travel back to their home areas themselves in their family transport. We need at least 3 drivers left to get the vehicles back to Chesterfield...so
please tell us your return-home plans asap.

DRIVERS
Riders need to be able to drive the vehicles too where possible (Callum excepted!). If anyone is unable/uncomfortable about driving the two Lexus 450's or the van, you need to let us know please. If anyone has any current driving licence convictions, or is under 25, please can you tell us now as that will affect how we manage driving shifts.

FUNDRAISING
Please can all cyclists now really start fundraising! Sponsorship forms are available but it would be preferable and easiest if you can direct people to give to the JustGiving.com/twycle account. Please do not set up seperate JustGiving accounts as we will confuse donators on where they should be donating and we risk double-counting the money actually being raised if we try and show other accounts as offline donations in Callum's main JustGiving account. This is a team effort and we need all the money being raised to be visible on just the one account please. Do you think everyone could aim at raising somewhere between £500 - £1000 each???!!! It would be fantastic if you could!

Help
We still need a lot of things sponsored...including cycling kit, spare bikes, repair kits, fuel for all 3 vehicles, ....so as the Twycle Riding Team we need your help...can any of you come up with contacts who can help?
