The British summer 2010 brainchild of Callum Fairhurst and Monty English, two entrepreneurs with a desire to make a difference to peoples lives - launched this project on 22nd March 2010.
Callum in a team of 9, (with guest riders) has
garnered, with Monty’s help, the power of Twitter to raise £20,000 for CLICSargent children’s cancer carefrom a cycle ride the length of Britain, John O’Groats to Lands End among other endeavours!.
£11,748 raised by 28th Oct, £8,252 still to get!! Can YOU help us?
This cycle ride is all about Callum (he was 13 at the end of May!) and is Liam’s younger brother. He has taken over the phenomenal fund raising campaign where his brother Liam, sadly, had to leave it- having raised an incredible £320,000. For those who want to understand the reasons behind this TwycleBritain campaign, here’s a few ideas about it and why we’re helping Callum raise the next £20k! Liam recieved a Pride of Britain Award in 2008, pictures below, and links to some of his other publicity
Liam Fairhurst died in in the summer of 2009..
Sarah, Liam’s mother: "Liam was diagnosed with cancer in his leg in July 2005 and had to go through gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Sadly Liam lost his best friend from the ward, Jack, to bladder cancer in 2006 and this inspired him to start a fundraising drive in his memory. Liam chose CLIC Sargent as he wanted to help other children with cancer and from his first sponsored event, a one-mile swim in December 2006, he was committed to raising as much money and awareness as he could. "Throughout Liam’s treatment we had the support of CLIC Sargent’s specialist care team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and we know first hand the difference that can make. Helping children like Liam spend as much time at home as possible while they’re having their treatment is so important."
