garnered, with Monty’s help,  the power of Twitter to raise £20,000 for CLIC Sargent children’s cancer care from a cycle ride the length of Britain, John O’Groats to Lands End among other endeavours!.

£11,748 raised by 28th Oct, £8,252 still to get!! Can YOU help us?

The TwycleBritain campaign was launched by a group of people who were linked to each other on ‘Twitter’ - one evening in March 2010 13yr old Callum Fairhurst and Monty English - one of the antiques experts on Dickinson’s Real Deal and older than 13! - were chatting about how Callum could become an entrepreneur - and he wanted to do something to raise some serious funds for CLIC Sargent - taking over from where his brother Liam had sadly ended his own fundraising when he succumbed to cancer aged 14,  in 2009.
Liam had already raised an incredible £320,000 for CLIC Sargent and had received a Child of Courage Award at Pride of Britain in 2008. Callum wanted to continue this work

On that third weekend of March 2010 the TwycleBritain idea was conceived. Before Monty knew where he was he’d agreed to help Callum arrange a cycle ride the length of Britain with and fundraising!

Relevant checks were made with Callum’s parents and off we went. A number of other people on Twitter had been watching the conversation evolve that night, Emma Walton of Walton PR offered to help with press and PR and Jo Eveleigh of DealDrivers Ltd offered to set up the website. They, together with a handful of other like-minded people on Twitter decided to get behind Callum and Monty, and go for it  - and get together a team of people and activities to raise £20,000. Jason Duff and Katherine Connelly became stalwarts in the final weeks of preparation, taking a lot of the organisation up.

Scott Brownlee from Toyota UK and Lexus UK quickly got behind it and offered two support vehicles for the trip, as did GK Ford motor group in Chesterfield offering a van to follow the cyclists carrying bikes and kit. We have other sponsors too in the short time since launching, see here

Karen Roberts from CLIC Sargent, and already linked to Callum’s family, has also kindly stepped in to support the TwycleBritain team too. Tesco and Wetherspoon’s have also stepped in with help

The culmination will be the cycle ride 29th August (leaving in vehicles from Chesterfield 27th Aug) - to Lands End by 4th Sep but over the summer we’ll be coming up with a few ways to keep you entertained and get you helping us raise the money with Callum!   The rest..as they say..is up to you!

At the end of June 2010 Callum attended the Diana Awards in London (and click here to see Callum!)
The Diana Award was made to 23 young people at an event in Canary Wharf on Monday. Those receiving the awards included
... 13-year-old Callum Fairhurst, from Cambridge, for showing "amazing strength of character" following his brother Liam's death from cancer. Judges said he has already raised more than £10,000 after choosing to continue the legacy left by his brother, also a Diana Award holder, by raising money for charity.
Callum, who hopes to raise a further £20,000 for charity from a cycle ride in September, was a "shining example" of how to move forward and continue helping others, the award ceremony was told.”
